How can I get a DUNS number?

The D&B DUNS number is a unique nine-digit identification sequence which provides unique identifiers of single business entities, while linking corporate family structures together.

The DUNS numbering system is a widely recognised standard for identifying businesses among thousands of companies, marketplaces and regulatory entities. Companies worldwide use the DUNS Number to link information about suppliers, customers and trading partners, providing a more complete picture of the risk and opportunity in their business relationships.

It's also recognised, recommended and/or required by more than 50 global, industry and trade associations, including the Australian Government, the United Nations, the U.S. Federal Government, and the European Commission.

If you are registered with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC), you will automatically be given a DUNS number. D&B receives notifications from ASIC for all company incorporations and generates a DUNS number accordingly. You can search for your business DUNS here:

If you are not registered with ASIC but possess an Australian Business Number, you do not have a DUNS number unless a financial institution or another company has run a credit check on your business. You can apply for one by emailing D&B at or via the DUNS Application Form.pdf.
